Hang up when pushing connect button

Hi,
I am using V5.2 Build 3914.
Error:
1) Start FlashFXP on W7 lastest update
2) Push symbol connect (or if I do Crtl + k) in tool bar on the right side
-> hang up of the software. I have to close FlashFXP because it is stuck.

Working is:
i) Menu: Session-> quick connect... (no hang up)
ii) F8 ... (no hang up)

Re: Hang up when pushing connect button

Did you upgrade to 5.2 build 3914 from a previous version, if so do you recall which?

I'm not quite sure why pushing the connect button would cause FlashFXP to hang.

Have you tried restarting your computer?

Re: Hang up when pushing connect button

Hi bigstar,
Yes, the old version is still installed: 4.4.4 (build 2046) and runs.
I have restarted by laptop several times.
By the way I am running on 64 bit.

Re: Hang up when pushing connect button

Please try this, click the connect button and let it hang for say 5min.

After 5min is it still not responding?

When a site list imported from v4.x or older is used in v5.x it must first undergo several transformations and updates.

The first transformation is that the content is converted from the system locale character set to utf-8.
(This occurs the first time the site list is loaded.)

At some point the site list gets verified and validated, the "ID" field of each site is checked for uniqueness, certain settings are verified and adjusted to follow the new v5.x format.

Where and when this occurs depends on several factors, but it is possible that this stage is being triggered when you click the connect button, this seems like the most likely situation given your scenario.

Typically this process is relatively fast, maybe 1~10 seconds, but a worse case scenario with 1000s of sites this process might take much longer.

The good news is that this process only needs to occur once, so once its done the issue should go away.

Assuming that this is in fact the issue in the first place.

Re: Hang up when pushing connect button

Hi bigstar,
Yes I have to wait for about 30 to 40 seconds (on Levovo T530 with i7 on W7 64bit) and the hang up is gone. However I have to do this after every restart of my laptop. What can I do? Do I have to uninstall the version 4?
Thanks,
Best regards

Re: Hang up when pushing connect button

From within FlashFXP under the main menu select Help > About and then click on the Details tab

Copy and paste the info in your reply

It sounds like the upgrade process is being triggered each time you start FlashFXP which leads me to believe that maybe one of your data files is failing to update or is read-only.

Do not remove your v4.x copy of FlashFXP until this issue is resolved. Keeping it installed will not have any negative effects on v5.x and you may need to use the backup feature in v4.x and restore into 5.x (but don't do that just yet)

Re: Hang up when pushing connect button

Hi Bigstar,
The hang up is gone! I don't know why but it is working. I start the software and push the connect button and it works. I didn't do an update or so. Strange but I am happy! Thanks a lot!
Best regards

Re: Hang up when pushing connect button

Very strange and unexpected, but I am glad to hear that the problem has resolved itself.

I cannot explain why it took many times before the problem went away.
