Default Server-IPs

Some of my site-manager sites constantly change IPs, and updating them is a royal pain. I'd like an added option to have the server-IP be updated based on an external source, like a file, user-defined per site. This update-check can eg. be perfomed each time the site-manager is opened.

I'm pretty sure we'd be the first to do this, so come on, let's be bold.

Hmm wouldn't the best solution be a dynamic dns service?

Of course, but not many trust using those. 'least not these people. I have a gut-feeling I'm not the only one that would find this useful, so I'm hoping you will look into wether it would be too messy.

what if you were to add an entry to windows "hosts" file

SpecialSite 127.0.0.1

Then enter SpecialSite as the ip to the site.

Would just need to keep the "hosts" updated

Although if you need to update a file anyways why not just update the sites.dat directly?

Where does this file that contains an ip come from and how is it updated?

Well, right now I get the updates in email and have the email-client store the IPs in separate files. Your hosts-scenario is certainly doable for me, I can easily write an app that updates it or sites.dat directly. I made the suggestion because I thought it could be beneficial for others aswell.

Well I think your situation is unique. granted it could be done, but I think it would be best to leave this to an external application.
