Default FTP Over SSL Difficulties

I am attempting to connect with an FTP server set up for work purposes. Due to the nature of the work, this connection must be secured. The gentleman who set up the server using Serv-U v4.1 connects to it using FlashFXP and gets in using SSL auth mode "TLS." So I have done the same, I have set up FlashFXP in passive mode, with the auth mode set to "TLS", and both boxes checked for secure file listing and secure file transfers. Both he and I are behind our firm's respective firewalls. My question is, that FlashFXP seems to go through all the right steps and connect to the server except that it gives me the "hourglass" as my cursor and fails to show the directory structure on the server. The program just sits indefinitely until the connection times out, and I am unable to view this file directory structure. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

read http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
you'll understand why you have such problem.
ignore the fact that you have SSL, it's just encryption.
