Angry Port forwarding / Behind a unknown firewall

Hi,

I'm a newbie in this forum and I'm not very familiar with FTP stuff.

I've a connection problem: I'm behind a unknown firewall in our company. I can't connect to FTP servers with ports other than 21.
At home, a connection to these FTP servers is ok.
My IP address outside the firewall is a fixed address for all users in our network.
OS: Win2000
FlasFXP: 2.0 / 902

I read something about 'port forwarding', but I've no idea how I've to manage this. I did a search here for this topic, but it's still foggy for me.

You're going to need to setup a external ftp proxy on port 21, that way you can connect to any port and not just 21.

I'm afraid port forwarding wont help you with this.

Hi BigStar,

thanks a lot for your fast reply.
Could you suggest me such a proxy?

I don't know whats best but I've used WinProxy & SpoonProxy

http://www.winproxy.net/
http://www.pi-soft.com/spoonproxy/

For clarification the proxy needs to be installed on a machine outside the firewall.

but if its within your company, are you the sys op/admin?, cause if your a worker, then its also very possible that the sys admin has setup the network this way?. You would have to speak to him/her about it

Hi MidNight,

I'm a worker, not the sysop - unfortunately...
And I'd spoken to him about this, but the answer was "this is our security policy".
Perhaps he will give me a special port, but he has to ask the security manager - you see, it's not so easy!
Therefore I'm looking for an other way...

But thanks for your answer!

if i were you i wouldn't do this.
they setup firewall for a reason. you trying to bypass it could lead to trouble. you can lose your job or even have criminal charges filed.

... yes, but I've to use this FTP- Transfer for legal upgrades for some of our applications!
Perhaps I will download these upgrades at home and send a big check to my company.
