Strange IP syntax with flashfxp?

While i was surfing in the internet, i have found somebody who postet an IP like this 23438493434 , well i thought it was a joke, but it worked! i was connected to an anon FTP server, so how is it possible that flashfxp connects to an IP like this?? is it a feature ?

can somebody pls explain me ?

one of many ways of typing an ip address:)
spammer often use this to hide their real sites
