Hi,

Looks like I am suffering from a problem that I though I would share with others. I have read a few similar posts but I would like to put the following to the FFXP Dev Crew.

When uploading files to my webspace and if they are fairly big FlashFXP simply hangs part of the way through the upload. I do have ZoneAlarm installed. The FTP server is running ProFTPD 1.2.10 Server.

Now my question is if its Zonealarm (as I have read in other posts), or an MTU setting on my machine or even the DSL router, then how come I can use other vendors FTP clients (WS_FTP v9.x) and the upload works as expected and completes????

Surely this cannot be the machine, the ftp server or even Zonealarm. Logic would suggest that FlashFXP and possibly Zonealarm or something else within WindowsXP doesn't get along. From experiance all my Send/Recieve buffers are standard (8/32).

If you want a debug log or something to be tested please let me know. I am willing to help out.

Thanks in advance...

when ffxp hangs, is it just UI that is not repsonding, while transfer is still going on in the background. or the whole thing halts?

have you tried uninstalling zonealarm to see if that solves your issue?
what are your MTU settings?

do transfers hang always at the same point?

To answer your questions:

1. FlashFXP hangs when about 60% of the way through a file.
2. The UI at this point stops responding.
3. The transfer continues to upload in the background and eventually finishes.
4. It doesn't always hang at the same point, its a little random depending on the size of the file, but I can be sure it will happen.
5. MTU Settings in FFXP = 8/32
6. MTU Settings in DSL Modem = 1492
7. MTU Settings in WindowsXP = (default)

I have also checked when this last happened by doing a quick 10mb file upload and noticed that the PID for FlashFXP shows the CPU utilization at almost 100% (this I believe is why the UI becomes slow to update). It fluctuates from about 90-100% when this behaviour is occuring. Once the transfer finishes it returns to normal. Another interesting thing is the graph has a huge spike in it much more than I can upload at which is only 25k/s.

I will try to uninstall Zonealarm to see if this problem goes away and report it back but I am reluctant.

Look forward to hearing from someone if they have some more ideas or want a debug etc.

I am happy to report that even without ZoneAlarm this problem still occurs. Uploaded the same 10mb file and the UI stalls and doesn't take focus when selected in the taskbar. If it does manage to show the entire page is simply white. Again the transfer continues in the background and eventually finishes.

Hope this helps out...

I also had this version of flashfxp freeze up on me for no apparent reason, however it was a complete lock up of that session (occured a few seconds after i hit f12 to open a new session.. the new opened session frozes). Had to end task. But so far have had no hanging during transfers (could be some sort of local fw/router issue dropping idle connections?). Have also not been able to reproduce the freeze up i had. Win2k sp4.
