View Full Version : Speed dropping
Greetings,
Today as i was transferring some rather large files from my laptop to my pc i noticed that the speed dropped at what seemed to be a regular basis.
I believe i have read some posts about this earlier, but i assumed it had been fixed.
I don't really see a reason for this speed-dropping as both computers were idle - except for the transfer.
Any ideas?

when did those speed drops happen? after each file or in the middle?
were those files all same size?
could you antivirus be scanning incoming files(which would slow down disk activity)?
or maybe some script is running on bpftd which is also checking each file(crc32/sfv/integrity) after upload?
The drops happened in the middle of the files.
All files were about 50mb. One was 4gb though. Same result.
I run NAV, but the usual popup that shows when NAV is scanning a file, did not show up. I can't really say if my antivirus is the problem. I will conduct further tests on this.
There are no scripts on the server.

mmm how very interesting, ive just recently gone through this will bigstar, but still dont know why
To be sure... just disable antivirus for time being. Then we eliminate one factor...
Greetings,
Ok. I ran some further tests on this. Actually i transferred the 4gb file 5 times :-) Anyway, i believe i have found the cause of this speed dropping.
NAV is not the problem. Speed is not affected by the scanner - at least not for me.
On the client pc (laptop) i've been using "Webroot SpySweeper". Now such a program doesn't really ring any alarm bells by me cause i've been using sweepers for a long time and never seen it affect transfer speeds. Though i believe it's the case here. As soon as i closed the program the droppings stopped and the entire transfer ran at about 11mb/sec.
So...maybe a factor that i should have mentioned. Sorry, but i really did not think it could affect anything - and i also forgot i had it installed :-)
Maybe some of the other users having this problem is running this sweeper aswell?
