Hi-Newbie needs help setting Flash Fxp to work with Norton Internet Security 2004

I am using Flash FXP V2.1 Build 924 and Norton Internet Security 2004 and Windows XP

If I disable the firewall in Norton I can connect and download/upload without any problem.
However if Norton is enabled I get the following -

Connecting to Mr C
Connected to Mr C -> IP=82.39.98.52 PORT=81
Connection failed (Connection lost)
Delaying for 10 seconds before reconnect attempt #1
[19:15:14] Connecting to Mr C #1
[19:15:15] Connected to Mr C -> IP=82.39.98.52 PORT=81
[19:15:15] Connection failed (Connection lost)
[19:15:15] Delaying for 10 seconds before reconnect attempt #2
[19:15:25] Connecting to Mr C #2
[19:15:26] Connected to Mr C -> IP=82.39.98.52 PORT=81
[19:15:26] Connection failed (Connection lost)
[19:15:26] Delaying for 10 seconds before reconnect attempt #3

Would be very grateful if anyone can help

Thanx

you need to look over your firewall rules and make sure flashfxp is allowed to connect to that address and/or port. and that you are not specificly blocking connections to that address or port.

Thanx for the reply.

Have checked that and Norton is set to allow Flash FXP to sllow traffic to and from any computer.

The only thing I can find is that the servers I am trying to conmnect to are on port 81.

I don't know if that has any menaing or not.

can u connect to servers using other ports?

could be that norton disabled port 81 , maybe u can tell norton to leave that port open ( havent used norton so i dont really know about its config options sorry)

I can disable Norton from scanning Port 81 but I was given the impression that if I did this then I would be open to attack via that port.

disabling port 81 was ment to test if it works correctly then or if u still cant connect

In Norton under the Firewall settings there is a HTTP port list.

If i delete port 81 from this list then I have no problems with Flash fxp.

However once I add it back to the list I cannot connect to a server using this port number.

hmm and on other ports flashfxp works perfectly normal? although the ports are closed by norton or are they not in the list?
very strange but i maý have found an answer to your problem
on the symantec website, read here (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.beagle.o@mm.html) and here (http://securityresponse1.symantec.com/sarc/sarc.nsf/html/w32.hllw.fizzer@mm.html) . this what i found so far and may explain it, so its your decision to open it or keep it closed, but as long as you have installed all windows patches you shouldn'be in great danger.

hope that helped

plus you are talking incoming ports, i'm talking about outgoing ports. totally different things.

Thanx for everybody's help but this is all getting too much for me. I am a newbie and don't understand all this port stuff etc.

Does this mean that I can disable Port 81 from the Norton firewall rules and be safe as Flash works ok if I do that.
