Hi, It is rumored that FlashFXP v3.0 RC1 Build 996 sends sites.dat to FBI as to facilitate warez crackdown and such. Is this true? (Would really apreciate a truthful answer, it will come out sooner or later).

Cheers
t0c

PS - if so I'd be dissapointed it would be a breach of customer privacy and the devs will look quite bad.

No. This is not true.

As near as we can tell, these slanderous statements originated from the bitter author of UltraFXP who was served a cease and desist order by IniCom, FlashFXP's publisher. They follow a trend of recent statements posted on various forums by him.

Be assured with hundreds of thousands of FlashFXP users, many of them highly skilled with computers and network security, that someone with better english skills would have come forward with hard evidence by now.

Thanks for your concern, we value your loyalty and trust. :)

Well I for one I am glad that my privacy is not violated. :) it is very good news indeed.

There was "flashfxp sites checker 0.8b" software that sends sites.dat file... But to that utility author, not FBI :)
That util don't associate in any way with FlashFXP developers.

Correct. But then, there are many virus/worms/trojans out there which steal data from one's machine. Just be careful what you download. :)

also with so many anti-spyware/anti-virus sites around, like Raccoon mentioned, don't you think somebody would have hard proof of this?
but i'm sure whoever is spreading that lie will say that bigstar bought out/bribed all those sites:)

Another rumour that bites the dust ;). If each (post here another FTP client) fan and lazy/envy FTP coders that create and spread false rumours about FlashFXP will invest the time into their own FTP clients, there will be a bunch of better programs ...

I'd still like to see a answer from bigstar before I make a choice, until then I will not upgrade to that version, I would hate to think this is true but untill I see it in writing from bigshot I will have to assume it's true.

PS: I'm not trying to be slanderous I know this is most likly untrue I'm just being carefull.

I happen to agree with firemansam. I would like to hear that from some of the devs :)

FlashFXP does not send any files to the FBI, us, or anyone else. This is yet another false rumor by people trying to make us look bad.

That would be a good feature to post in the Suggestions forum. I too would enjoy a feature that checked my site list for dead sites, or sites with dead IPs (multiple ips). kudos.

I heard about this earlier today and I was shocked. I talked to some other people about it and they told me the same thing. So I actually considered not ever using FlashFXP anymore.

But now I'm even more shocked to hear this was just a rumor put out by.. whoever it was.. it almost tricked me into not using FlashFXP anymore. Well I'm glad I googled it up and came along this topic here :)

FlashFXP doesn't send or collect any data or files of it users to anyone or anywhere. It never has and never will. I've been using FlashFXP since v1.4.

Just check your firewall logs and you'll see.

On occasion flashfxp will randomly check if there is a new build available for download and if there is it will prompt you and ask if you would like to download it.
