hi,
newbie question--my friend hosts an ftp site. he had some problems when our isp switched to dynamic ip's. he now has a static ip, and clients can login again but his host times-out when it tries to retrieve the root directory listing.
any thoughts?

Are you using passive mode, is he using a NAT-based connection?
Any logs you can include to show what happens?

He is using PASV mode, and I am using a NAT based connection.
There seems to be some box you can tick in Flash (Router/NAT etc) that allows ppl to connect to my site. However, with other clients, it doesn't work.
I have since put my IP in the DMZ on my router and this seems to have solved the problem temporarily...

Fix and fix.. The DMZ option circumvents firewall-settings etc. so I wouldn't use that. In the server you use, do you have the option to specify the port-range used for passive-mode transfers? If so specify a range (It can even be a single port if your demands are limited) and make sure that port is open in your router/firewall.
