When I enter <somesite:port> in the server editbox, I noticed the rest of the quick connect window automatically gets greyed out, even if I didn't enter a l/p in the same editbox, is this intended behaviour?

Yes, that's as intended. It gets parsed as an ftp:// url. The default behaviour is to use anonymous as user, so the rest of the options is disabled.
