I got a device attached to my PC via a NIC and crossover cable. The device has an 'un-static' IP address, whatI need to know if there is a command in Flash to find this IP address since it is not static.

Thanks.

another word for "un-static" is dynamic.
you can setup dynamic dns service and enter dynamic dns hostname into flashfxp, it'll automaticaly resolve to new ip each time.

Can you giv me instructions on how to do this please? I have setup a static IP address for the NIC and gateway.

So with this, I can hit the dynamic IP device? I await your response...

Also, what do I type in (IP Address) when connecting to the dynamic IP device?

here's a list of some dynamic dns services
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Internet/Servers/Address_Management/Dynamic_DNS_Services/
it works like this, you run a small client on your machine that detect new dynamic ip address, it then connect to one of those dynamic dns services and update their records with your new ip.
so for example you signed up with one service and registred for savo.dynamichost.org
so every time you get a new ip address a client will connect to their service and tell them that ip address for savo.dynamichost.org is such and such. then you just enter savo.dynamichost.org in flashfxp and every time you run it flashfxp will bind itself to correct ip address.

Hmm, not sure if I know what u mean, the device is an xbox connected to pc, on which cant specify an dns. the xbox will have a dynamic IP address which i need to recognise on pc in order to connect vbia flashfxp. is there a program i can run on pc to pick up this dynamic ip address?

thanks.

oh..heh
the way you described in above it sounded completely different.
why don't you give static ip to xbox?
if i'm not mistaken, even if a device has dynamic ip, as long as there are same devices on the network you'll get same ip each time you connect..
