Hi all, new here :) was having an issue that I need some help on...
I am trying to unhide dot files to give me the ability to use a program that lets me upload images to a photo gallery by just logging in from any computer. But, I have to change the permissions on the .htacess file and I cannot see it :(
Any help would be great!
Thank in advance.

I've done that and I still can't see the file. It says that it was uploaded but doesnt show.
This is what is read:
TYPE I
200 Type set to I.
PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (209,202,156,231,186,25)
STOR .htaccess
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for .htaccess
226 Transfer complete.
Transferred: .htaccess 0 bytes in 0.11 (1.00 KBps)
But, I can see nothing in that directory.
Is there another thing we can try?
Thanks in advance.

are you trying to upload empty file or there's something in it already?
and another thing, i think you should upload that file as ASCII and not BINARY.
instead of "show hidden files", click on custom list and enter "rtal"

yes, it is an empty file, that is what the program said I should do if I understood it correctly.
I uploaded in ASCII and put in rtal like you had mentioned (assuming there were no quotation marks) and still nothing.
Should the file have something on it before I attempt to upload it?
Thanks...

yes, put like one space in that file.
it's possible that your server doesn't allow empty files..

well, I tried two ways; just adding a space in the .htaccess file by just smacking the space bar once, then saving it...uploaded it and couldnt see it.
Then, I tried just putting a period in there (figured it needed content or something) and it asked if I wanted to over-write an already existing .htaccess file! So, that proves that it is there, but I still cannot see it and it's blowing my mind :|
Any other suggestions? :o

all you need to do is chmod it?
so just use raw command and chmod..:)

well, if I chmod it on my computer, thats fine, but after I upload it to the server, I have to change the permissions back for security purposes. I need to see the file. :(

no i mean chmod it on the server.
you know what dir that file is in. you say that you get overwrite prompt and that file is there. so just issue raw command in that dir to change attibutes of that file..
btw, what ftp server is that?
