Due to server performance problems with the old message board we were forced to abruptly shut it down.

A couple days prior to this my computer died and it took me 5 days to restore my system. By then the message board had already been disabled by the FlashFXP webmaster. I feel we need this message board to better FlashFXP. Rather then spending alot of time procrastinating on which board we were going to switch to, I made up my mind we would use vbulletin. Hopefully it lives up to my expectations.

Unfortunately everyone will need to sign up again.

Over the next couple days I will be adjusting/tweaking the settings. Please leave me a comment if you have a suggestion.

Regards,
Charles DeWeese

Good choice, vBulletin is definitely the best message board system out there. The only real problem with it is that it is not free (and it should be). But there is no comparison to it and other message board systems, it is far superior ..

YaBB has all the functionality of vBulletin and then some.

http://yabb.xnull.com/

Best of all, it's free.

Not to say this isn't a good board too, just letting you know of a (free!) alternative thats every bit as good.

yabb is not good.
webserver ISP refused to host any cgi msgboards. only php/mysql

So because your host doesn't ofer CGI means its not good? Makes sense ...

Yep, vB is great, greater than most boards out there. Tho, some skeletons have come out recently, which may make some people balk. vB has a builtin call-back/"spy" feature that essentialy contacts Jelsoft each time the admin-panel is accessed, or some special funtions therein is used. Jelsoft has, in their infinite wisdom, elected not to make this public, or even comment on this when it came up in a poll on their community board regarding proposed anti-piracy changes. I'm pointing it out in case Charles might want to yank out the "offending" code.

Also, when the IkonBoard got pulled, did you guys store the stuff, or do we need to post every bug-report, suggestion and wise-crack all over? :D

this vB is perfectly legal. i don't see anything wrong if it calls back home to check license number. we don't post anything private or illigal here that we wouldn't want Jelsoft Ent. to read.
old board is still alive and kickin and all msgs are there. bigstar found a script that would convert ikb msgboard and users to vB, but since we were using ikb3 it didn't exactly work.

My apologies, I didn't intend to insinuate any illegalities of any kind. I'm all for keeping tabs on who's using whose license, it's still a bit shady for people (perhaps sickly) concerned with privacy-issues. That said, vB is a great board and I'm happy you chose it.

Maybe a news-bulletin on the main-page is in order, btw, for people like myself who hard-linked the board.

We lost everything when we switched from IKB to vB. I came across a post converter but I couldn't get it to work, it ended up messing up the db :/

I purchased a 1 year leased license for vB at $85.. It's peanuts compared to what paid for Delphi 6 Pro and I'm not even using it yet.. I guess I jumped the gun on that one <sigh>

ouch.. So I'm not going to see my much-awaited changes, nay, improvements anytime soon? ick. Guess we'll just have to wait for the next beta, then do the whole thing over when we see what's missing. ;)

As for a leased vs owned license, I predict you'll want to stick with vB, it's by far the most friendly forum-software out there, both from a user's and admin's point of view, as well as demands
hardware-wise.

It worked :) needed to get the last title updated on the forum display.

I don't recall though, did the old layout use bold title/names?

No, the bold is new. Imho, a bit too much, but that might just take some getting used to. ;)

The choice was wise to move from any board to vBulletin. My personal experience with it is '' great ''.

It shouldn't be free. The price for a commercial products is pretty low. This money gives you not only professional support but also the assurance that they will keep continueing their support and development on their product. I would almost never pay for some .php code, but this software package has proven to be the right choice. I was happy to see this site uses it too.

About the spy code, this is not meant as a spy code, and Jelsoft has replied to this officially already. They do not have to reply to each post made. This is why their forum has a nice search feature :)
