Flow: Well, creating the .cache type files would be optional of course. It would also only happen when a configurable threshold of say 100 subdirs were in a directory which would mean it wouldn't happen for most dirs just large daily dirs or something like /XVID. This is far trickier than the start/stop cache bit anyway because you wouldn't want to update these .cache files on every change, but say every 15 minutes if there had been any changes to the dir...
