Tutorial 1: Creating a new site

When you first start FlashFXP from the start menu, (Start - Programs - FlashFXP - FlashFXP) you get a window like the one here below.

Tutorial Screen

As you can see it's pretty empty, so the first thing we are going to do is to create a profile for your site in the Site Manager. To open the Site Manager press the F4 button on your keyboard or go to Sites - Site Manager on the menu.

You will get the following window.

Tutorial Screen

In the site manager you can add your FTP sites for easy access. You can add as many as you like and arrange them into groups. To create a profile for your website click the New Site button.

You will then get a dialog window asking you to enter a name for your site.

Tutorial Screen

For this example we will use my site, but you should of course enter any name you like.
I wrote mujadin.net and clicked OK.

You will now return back to the dialog window where you will be required to enter some more information. In the IP Address field enter the domain or the IP of your website. For example, I know that my FTP domain is ftp.aco.f2s.com so I'll write that.

Next up is the Port field. Unless you know that the FTP site is on a different port than the standard 21, you don't have to change anything here.

In the User Name field you must enter a username that will allow you to access the FTP server. For my site it is aco so I'll write that.

The next field is named Password. Here you have to enter your password which together with the username will allow you to access your website.

If you know that you are connecting to a site that is open to everyone, you can click in the Anonymous checkbox. When you do that, the User Name and Password fields will become disabled.

If you want FlashFXP to enter a directory on the server directly when you connect you can fill in the Remote Path field. In this example I want this, so I'll enter /www.aco.f2s.com/. FlashFXP will show it in the remote view (right window) when I connect.

The Local Path is the directory on your harddrive where your website is located.
You can enter it directly or press the yellow folder button to browse for it.
Local Path is a neat feature that means when you connect to your website from FlashFXP it will directly switch to that folder in local view (left window).

The final field is the Notes one where you can enter a comment about your site.

Now that the toughest part is almost over, click the Apply button to save your site.
