Default Script developers, look here.

I´m not sure if this has been covered so please have mercy.
I have an idea that i´d like to hear your opinion on.
It´s about when you make a new version/update of an existing script.
As example: i use phpbb2 and when you install a script there, it´s often like this:

Find:
"Code1"

Erase that.

Find:
"code2"

Replace with:
"Code3"

and so on.

This is very nice and easy i think, and especially when there is a small code update, and it´s a "big" script.
Then you wont have to redo all settings in it.

I guess it´s a little more work for the developers, but very handy i think.
And maby we, the mortals would understand a bit more about the script, and maby even have ideas in the developing too.

So,... hit me where it hurts

- max

Well, most of the developers here do do that already, so you can sorta consider your idea used

for those that use iTCL what you request is entirely possible, but those of us that use C/C++ we can't do that. unless it was a binary patch, which would be stupid and pointless. or if we asked you to compile your own C/C++ binaries, which some people, unfortunately, cannot do (lack of tools / lack of knowledge).

As for your idea for iTCL scripters, it takes a lot more time to write a tutorial on upgrading your current version than it takes to zip and release the update.
you're free to do a file comparision to view changes after that. but really, there is no point to do what you've asked scripters to do.

I think he was prolly referring to the stuff user has to customise suich as config files and shit. So replace exe, add x to config here type shit.
Replacing exe aint a worry when you dont have to customise. Amateurs changing everything themselves and compiling their own would be a damn stupid idea, would be nothing but people complaining it aint working on forums

read it again ewarwoo. i'm pretty sure he's talking about how you mod phbb2 (and likewise, VBB) ... which is done by replacing code.

max1mus can you clarify if this is what you meant?

maX1mus: You should look into the GNU diffutils. Just create a patch between the previous version and the newer version, then apply that patch to your customized version. Or any file comparison tool for that matter (i.e. Araxis Merge, Beyond Compare or even FC.exe).

This is something you can do on your own, scripters shouldn't have to waste their time with meaningless and excessive instructions.
